Janine was recently interviewed so that you can not only get to know her, but additionally learn why our clients choose her to help them navigate the complexities of tax season.
Janine Roberts Q & A
When did you join our team, and where did you work before joining us?
I joined the Davidsons team in February 2021 after moving to the Geelong area. Prior to starting with Davidsons, I worked as an accountant in Wodonga for 15 years.
What made you choose accounting as a career?
I chose Accounting as I have always loved working with numbers. Before entering the Accounting and Taxation field I worked in the Banking Industry, which is where this love started.
How would your colleagues describe you?
“Janine is a kind, respectable and down-to-earth member of our team. She puts a great deal of effort into everything she does and has become an important part of the broader Davidsons team. Her knowledge base is first-rate and we are lucky to have her here at Davidsons.”
What is a fact that people may not know about you?
I grew up in Moyhu, a country town in North East Victoria. I have spent most of my life in Moyhu, Wangaratta and Wodonga, before shifting down to Geelong at the end of 2020.
Out of Moyhu, Wodonga, Wangaratta, and Geelong, where has been your favourite place to live and why?
Moyhu is probably the most favourite place I have ever lived, and it has a very special place in my heart. Growing up there everyone knew everyone, and it was a quiet and peaceful place to live. Our house backed onto paddocks, and it was a very scenic view. Moyhu was also a very safe area to raise my own children, with my kids being the 5th generation of my family to attend Moyhu Primary School.
With that all being said, the longer I live in the Geelong area the more I love it. There are plenty of local places to visit, and it definitely does not get as hot as a Country Summer does.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you visit and why?
Unlike some people, I have always preferred to travel in our own backyard compared to traveling overseas. I would love to do a big trip around Australia starting with the West Coast.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy working with my other Davidsons team members and preparing the individual tax returns for my clients. Everyone, including team members and clients, has been very friendly and have made me feel very welcome.
Why do your clients trust you?
I am trusted by clients as I am friendly and approachable, and I have over 15 years’ experience in Taxation and Personal Income Tax returns. I am continuously upskilling, and I have a wealth of knowledge so I can help all my clients on a variety of different matters.
I believe that proficiency is key to preparing my client’s tax returns so they are achieving their maximum after-tax position allowable. My clients trust me because of my thoroughness and my strong work ethic, and I love seeing them return to me year after year for all their taxation matters.
What has been the most rewarding experience in your time with us?
It is not just one moment that has been the most rewarding, but rather a combination of helping my clients receive a good tax refund and the relationships you build in the process. It’s been extremely rewarding meeting and interacting with all the clients of Davidsons and helping them to navigate their taxation responsibilities.
Why do you love working with your clients?
I love working with my clients because everyone in our community is extremely friendly, kind, and easy to work with. All these qualities make it easy to build a relationship that we can continue for years to come. Having a strong relationship with my clients helps me to guide them through tax related queries, such as what they can claim as deductions and what documents they need to keep. All of this makes it more rewarding when a client receives a good refund on their tax return.
